Preschool Origins: James

I tried to make that title sound cool, like X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Whether I pulled it off or not, we all know that preschool is just as cool as X-Men. We have nothing to prove.

So, at the beginning of September, after Bethany had started kindergarten and we had gotten the ball rolling on our remodel, it was time for yet another change. Mr. James headed off to preschool!

Look how excited he was!!!

No, wait, let's try again...

Look how excited he was!!!

Umm...

Look...how...excited...?

Well, as you can see...he was hesitant!
But, luckily, Evergreen Cottage has the most loving, sweet teachers and though it took him a few weeks to be solidly on board, he can now proudly claim a willing drop-off every time!
This is just James' way. He will do it (it can be anything from coloring in the lines, using the potty, spelling his name, going to school or church classes...) when he is good and ready. He will fight and cry, fight and cry, and then one day...just do it. And never look back.
Or...only sometimes look back.
Either way, I just love seeing this part of his personality and it really makes me wonder how that will translate into adulthood!

For now, we are quite far from adulthood but we are mastering this wonderful preschool phase. He is doing great, being his sweet, happy, determined self, making friends, and learning a lot.
His new favorite thing is writing his name over and over, and asking for help to write everyone else's name as well. I like when he asks Bethany for help because it is just so darn cute watching her coach him on the difference between an 'M' and an 'N' or how many lines an 'E' has. It can all get a little confusing but with a patient older sister, excited teachers, and proud parents, he is doing wonderfully!

We are excited to watch him explore this year in preschool and get ready for kindergarten next year!
Oh my.
I think I need to lie down...
