Somebody's Four!!!

March 5th, 2005 was spent holding, cooing over and staring at my new baby girl, marveling at her beauty and praying that I could give her all she deserves.
March 5th, 2009 was spent driving her to preschool, baking her a cake, holding her while we watched a Disney movie together, cooing over the sparkly birthday crown she got at school in celebration of her birthday and staring at her while she snuggled in for bed, marveling at how fast four years have gone by and praying that I am giving her all she deserves.

And so...we have a four year old in the house! Bethany was quite excited for her birthday as it approached this year. I love how excited she gets about special events and occassions! I know that if I could let myself catch her enthusiasm for life I would probably make a lot more of my days!  Anyway, her birthday came on a Thursday this year, which was perfect because it is a school day for her. School plus birthday equals a whole lot of fun for Bethany! We had a little gathering planned for Saturday, but were sure to celebrate on her actual birthday as a family.

Here are some picture of our day!

JC usually gets home right about bedtime so the kids don't get to spend a whole lot of time with him on his long days of work...BUT, to our surprise, he arrived home before dinner and Bethany got to spend time with Daddy on her special day!!!
To sweeten the deal even more, he brought home a surprise.
A balloon.
A PRINCESS balloon.
He sure knows the way to his baby girl's heart!
She carried it around all night...and all the next day...and beyond... :)
Bethany informed me she wanted a butterfly birthday cake again this year. She put a 'sticky note' on the page of a book that had a picture of a butterfly cake and checked every day for two weeks to be sure it was still marked so I wouldn't forget. She also informed me that she wanted m&m's on the cake like last year but "just a little bit so the sugar doesn't make us sick."
My little mom-heart skipped a little beat at her nutritional consciousness.
The outcome:
(same agave chocolate cake recipe I mentioned recently only this time with a maple syrup/cream cheese frosting...mmmm...oh, and twizzlers for antenna...)
Doesn't her face say it all? Birthday cake anticipation...it's a great feeling.
Birthday cake plus Preschool Birthday Princess Crown equals GREAT day.
As does getting a visit from Grandma Polly...bearing presents! Even birthday cake anticipation and a sparkly crown can't outshine a grandma and presents!
Here, Bethany oo's and ah's about her new puzzles!
Then gets right to work, playing with them. She and the boys played and laughed with Grandma Polly...
...and Scout too...
until bedtime...

It was nice to have a fun but laid back birthday with Bethany and I hope it was a special day for her! She most definitely deserves the best.

i love birthdays when they start to anticipate them! so fun. and i seriously almost cried about the balloon. can you say low on sleep? haha. but that was a really sweet little story. and i love the "sugar" comment. abbie has caught on to some stuff like that, sometimes stuff that she doesn't need to worry about yet if she's eating a balanced diet...but still cute.
